Delve into the history of ceramics, learn new skills and discover new ideas during these informal Sunday Workshops where you will make creations inspired by historic ceramics

18th Century Delft Flower Brick

Think Medieval tiles and jugs, English slipware, Dutch flower bricks, cacao ceremony cups, clay animals and more! These Sunday Workshops are perfect if you are a complete beginner and are also a great way develop your existing clay repertoire. These sessions are led mainly by Claypit Founder Rachel, who spent many years working at the British Museum and on archaeological excavations across the UK, Europe and the Middle East. By taking inspiration from historic and contemporary ceramics you will produce something truly unique with step-by-step guidance and individual support.  Suitable for adults and children 11+ with an accompanying adult. Max 8 people.

Sunday 8th September

Throwing day

Perfect if you want a one day throwing experience. This course is aimed at complete beginners. Learn the basics of making on a potter's wheel, decorate with coloured slip, add spouts and handles to create something truly unique.

Sunday 6th October

Inlayed Tiles

Design and make a series of patterned tiles using different coloured clays.

Sunday 17th November

Animals in clay

Hares, foxes, cats or dogs come and get to grips with the hand-building techniques needed to create your very own seated animal sculpture. This workshop is led by local artist Sara Piper Heap.
